ERGONOMICS IN THE WORKPLACE
Do you think an office chair is just a chair? Specialists who deal with workplace well-being and health care, as well as the physiotherapists at FYZIO KLINIK®, would not quite agree.
What are the health consequences of sedentary office habits?
Sedentary work most often leads to:
- headaches and problems with concentration
- muscular tension in the shoulders and neck
- circulatory disorders
- cardiovascular problems
These health issues often cause several days of sick leave and economic losses for companies.

One solution to this problem is to encourage employees to leave their workstations as often as possible. This can be achieved through clever floor plans or by placing coffee areas, rest zones or printers within a short walking distance of the work area.
You can find tips on how to warm up at work, even while sitting at your chair, HERE.
However, you can also support and encourage movement by choosing the right ergonomic chair.
How to choose the perfect office chair?
When selecting a work chair, three factors should be considered:
- How will it be used?
Will the chair be used by more than one person? How long will the user remain seated on it during the day? What kind of work will they be doing? - Movement ensures well-being
Look for a chair with features that encourage movement. - Test it and see which chair suits you best
Your chair should be comfortable and easy to adjust to your needs. Pay attention to whether the control mechanisms are easy to reach and intuitive.
The perfect ergonomic chair is one that supports the spine's natural S-shape while seated, helping to maintain correct posture. It is also one that encourages movement.

Ergonomic office chairs
At FYZIO KLINIK® we offer ergonomic chairs from Kinnarps, which fall into two categories — those that support movement and those that encourage movement. Both categories offer the possibility of adapting to highly individual needs.

As with an exercise ball, we do not recommend sitting on this chair for longer than 30 minutes. Stabilising yourself on a balance chair or exercise ball can lead to overloading of the back. So switch back to your office chair, or go for a coffee with your colleagues.

At FYZIO KLINIK® we can help you choose and set up a chair for your office or home. For companies we offer complete ergonomic consultancy, the selection and supply of equipment and accessories, as well as lectures and workshops for employees.
