LOWER BACK PAIN
Back pain is nowadays considered a disease of civilisation. The reasons and combinations of factors that contribute to the pain are numerous. Whether the cause is a passive lifestyle or, on the contrary, an active one through which we overload the body to a certain degree. The goal is always clear – relief from pain and an improved quality of life.
REASONS BEHIND THE PROBLEM
Mr Vladimír is an example of a client with significant back pain. His back “went out” several times to the extent that he was sidelined from everyday life. Active running, yoga, cycling, work at his country cottage, a sedentary job and damaged spinal discs caused the pain that brought him to FYZIO KLINIK®. He felt relief when twisting his hip to the side. A long-term sideways shift of the pelvis and the subsequent complete displacement of his centre of gravity to the side and forward led to overall poor body posture.
THE GOAL IS THE JOURNEY
Our aim was a return to an active life without pain or limitations. Mr Vladimír underwent an initial kinesiological examination, on the basis of which we designed a rehabilitation plan. We tailor this individually for every client. At the start, we focused on relieving pain through manual therapies. We primarily used soft tissue techniques, neutral stretching and the release of stiff muscles, combined with physical therapy.
We then moved on to exercise, with the goal of correcting the muscular imbalances that had previously been deepening the pain. We used exercises with various tools, elements of the DNS concept, Redcord and others.
We practised the lost and forgotten fundamental movements of the spine, worked on mobilising the pelvis, creating ideal intra-abdominal pressure and proper breathing, which takes pressure off the spine. In this way we ensured better engagement of the deep stabilising system – the CORE muscles.
Pain relief came about, in addition to all of the above, also thanks to the fact that Vladimír regularly attends our Spinal Centre. Through exercise on specialised machines tailored to the exact specifications of his body, we primarily achieved: mobilisation of the pelvis in non-dominant directions and the correction of muscular imbalance.
THE JOURNEY IS THE GOAL
Today we are at the stage where Vladimír regularly attends the Spinal Centre. There, he is now developing his spine evenly. We have also moved his training into the gym, where we are currently working on strength training, which research shows is an excellent way to enhance the body’s postural stability.
