MASSAGE AND TAPING FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

MASSAGE AND TAPING FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful periods in a woman's life. A woman experiences the joy of expecting the most precious being, her baby. At the same time, however, it is a period full of changes: physical – a change in the loading of the axial organ as the bump grows, psychological – changes at the level of hormonal function, fear of the unknown, expectations…

Massage for pregnant women

The changes taking place in a woman's body can be eased through pregnancy massage by relieving muscular tension. We individually influence the oxygenation of the soft tissues, circulation and pain – whether in the area of the spine, head, joint system or feet… A popular part is also a gentle abdominal massage as prevention against stretch marks and to improve intestinal peristalsis.

Pregnancy massage can be used throughout all stages of pregnancy. During the first three months, it is recommended that massage be undertaken only in the case of an acute, painful condition of the musculoskeletal system. The massage is most often carried out in a seated or side-lying position, using targeted massage techniques to achieve harmonisation, relief and a renewed feeling of strength.

Massage is not recommended for a pregnant woman if she has the flu, an infection or unusual pain. In the case of any uncertain or unclear questions, the woman is advised to consult her doctor and physiotherapist regarding massage therapy.

Taping for pregnant women

Taping makes use of the natural elasticity of the tape, which gently lifts the skin, thereby supporting better blood flow and reducing pressure on the pain receptors in the skin.

Taping is used to support and stabilise the joints and muscles, reduce pain and swelling, and improve blood circulation.

During pregnancy, taping is most often applied to the lower part of the growing bump – where it provides a supportive function and thus helps to relieve the mother from back, abdominal or pelvic pain.

We also use the application of tape on the frequently overloaded back muscles in order to influence their stabilisation and improve the overall coordination that is affected during pregnancy by the growing bump.

Lymphatic taping has also proven effective during pregnancy – it has a similar effect to lymphatic drainage, easing blood circulation and supporting lymph flow.

Taping is not suitable for application over protruding varicose veins, on open wounds, in areas of eczema or other skin disease, during viral illnesses or in the case of an allergic reaction to the taping tape.
