MYASTHENIA GRAVIS VS. REHABILITATION PLAN

MYASTHENIA GRAVIS VS. REHABILITATION PLAN

What is Myasthenia gravis?

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease in which the neuromuscular junction is damaged. It causes muscle weakness, and the patient becomes fatigued quickly, even with minimal exertion. However, it is not just a momentary weakness of the body or ordinary muscle soreness that goes away. In MG, the immune system produces antibodies that prevent the transmission of electrical impulses from the nerve to the muscle, thereby causing muscle weakness and difficulties with voluntary movement. This diagnosis is serious. Early diagnosis and the establishment of appropriate treatment are essential for the patient's best possible functioning.

Setting up the rehabilitation plan

Our client Zuzana came to us a year ago with this diagnosis, when her health condition no longer carried a favourable prognosis. She wanted to do more than simply rely on medication and remain without active movement. She therefore visited our clinic and underwent an initial examination, on the basis of which we set up a rehabilitation plan for her. Since Mrs Zuzana needed to exercise and maintain her body in good physical condition, which was crucial for her at that moment, her rehabilitation sessions focused primarily on bodyweight exercises, and later various aids and the Redcord system were also introduced. Due to back pain, she also began attending the Spinal Centre, which focuses on treatment of the spine in combination with release techniques. After a suitably tailored rehabilitation plan and during routine consultations, our client's condition began to improve significantly, despite the fact that Myasthenia gravis is a demanding illness. Her diagnosis stabilised, and Mrs Zuzana regained both physical and mental strength. The improvement was also evident from a neurological perspective.

We continuously monitor our client's health status and adjust the rehabilitation plan so that we can gradually relieve the associated pain and other complications connected with her diagnosis.
